Bezzina Bernard

France

The sculptures of French artist Bernard Bezzina, born in 1956, are as fascinating as they are irritating at first glance. Though his works have a classic figurative character, the artist limits himself to the depiction of parts of the human body. This means we encounter the works "Main Bronze" and "Poing" at the Swiss Triennial of Sculpture as nothing but fragments. Bezzina drafts his works in a powerful style with a powerful appearance. The deliberately cracked surfaces of the sculptures, which are often referred to as "self-portraits", also manifest the fragility and transience of the human body and existence. In this way, Bernard Bezzina's works become a cleverly and powerfully formulated metaphor of strength and life as well as fragility and transformation.
