Bürcher Félix Antoine & Zin Balthazar

Schweiz & Schweiz

Lausanne-born artist Antoine Félix Bürcher (*1999) completed a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at the Haute école d'art et design in Geneva. He then embarked on a Master's programme in Fine Arts at the Zurich University of the Arts. His sculptures and installations can be seen at exhibitions in Switzerland and abroad.

Balthazar Zin (*1998), also from Lausanne, studied at the Haute école d'art et design, where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. He then began a Master's programme in Contemporary Arts Practice at the Bern University of the Arts. He exhibits his works mainly in French-speaking Switzerland.

Using motifs taken from everyday life, Bürcher and Zin mix mythological scenes with current developments and speculative narratives in their bas-reliefs. The comparison of the standstill of history with a rapidly developing present day reflects techno-social and techno-capitalist challenges. "How do we deal with these?" With a "pause", the artists suggest. In this way, Bürcher and Zin call for a decelerated analysis of the present and the future - until it too is chiselled in stone at some point.

Quote

While presenting an anachronistic vision of a paradoxical present, in ruins
and under construction, we question the Western narratives that make up our history and define our technological present.
